Myron Cohen's research has focused on Han Chinese culture and society in late imperial and modern China. He conducted fieldwork in peasant societies in Taiwan, Shanghai, and Sichuan to trace the sociocultural convergences and divergences in Han Chinese communities. At present, Cohen has returned to do historical anthropology at his first field site at Meinong, southern Taiwan.
